False Lovers Just for Show

They smile together for the crowd.
They hold each other nice and proud.
They kiss whenever people stare.
But there is no true feeling there.

She calls him darling when they meet.
He holds her hand along the street.
They look so happy in the light.
But argue when they leave the sight.

They take their pictures every day.
They show the world that love will stay.
They tell the people they’re in love.
But neither feels the things they show.

She wears his jacket for the show.
He gives her flowers just to go.
They play the lovers people see.
But underneath they disagree.

The cameras make them look so fine.
They smile and say that love is mine.
But when the cameras turn away.
They have no loving words to say.

They say that they could never part.
They say they both have one true heart.
But underneath the words they say.
They both are slowly walking away.

One day the cameras disappear.
The perfect couple lose their cheer.
They look at one another then.
And know their love was only pretend.

For love is not a little show.
It isn’t something you can pose.
A picture cannot make love stay.
When both your hearts have walked away.
