Facing the Exam

A boy sits alone with a furrowed brow

His books open, his head bowed

Exam time is drawing near

And he's filled with worry, and with fear

He stares at the page, his mind a blur

A knot in his stomach, his nerves a stir

The questions seem like an endless maze

And his confidence begins to fray

He wonders if he's studied enough

Or if he's left something crucial untouched

He fears the judgment of the test

And worries it will leave him feeling depressed

He wishes he could run away

Or somehow just delay

The moment when he must begin

And face the challenge that lies within

But as the clock ticks closer still

He knows he must face his own will

To push through and do his best

And hope that it will be enough to pass the test

So with a deep breath and a steady hand

He picks up his pen and takes a stand

Against the doubts that cloud his mind

And begins to write, one word at a time

And as the hours slowly pass

He finds his rhythm, his pace, his grasp

And with each question he completes

He feels his anxiety slowly retreat

Until at last, with the test complete

He feels a sense of hard-won defeat

For though he still may not know his score

He knows that he did all he could and more

And in that moment, he finds a truth

That though exams may seem uncouth

They challenge us to reach our peak

And prove to ourselves what we can achieve
