Stoic Admiration

Bookends stand straight as soldiers, side by side.

One supports the next as they brace themselves, ready.

Organized and trained to fight with words and logic.

Serious, stoic, steady, and still.

They look on, unblinkingly mysterious treasures they are.

Comforting, careful, cautious, and kind.

Willing to be opened and voices need to be heard loud and clear.

Trained, tired, tried, and true.

They press on through worst opposition and great disrespect.

Battling, berated, belittled, and beloved.

They shed tears and bullets over friendly fires.

Moving, motivated, militant, and marvelous.

They show their hardened, battered faces, never giving up their passionate courage.
