Perfume and poison

I’m ready for new beginnings,

But truth hides in my hesitations’

If I meant it, I wouldn’t cling so fast

To echoing ghosts stitched into the past.

All those fabricated lies consume me,

Like that expensive perfume that once corroded me nd my thoughts .

that perfume

it didn’t just sit on your skin,

it lived in the room.

It clung to my clothes

like the way your name clings to my throat

when I try to talk about healing.

Engulfed.

That’s what I was.

Not in love

in illusion.

And still,

still,

some part of me wants to believe

you didn’t mean to break me.

It was an accident .

But how when accidents don’t leave fingerprints,

On the person I used to be .
