What do you do when you don’t like where you are in life?

When efforts to grow fail, due to lack of nourishment

And your environment is too toxic to support any life force flourishing

Do you attempt the dance one more time?

Waltz in circles, fight but once again fail to compromise

Former devotees now at odds—a partnership clearly dissolved

Within his walls: arrogance, aloofness, and abandonment

In yours: depression, heartache, and a lack of self-respect

What do you do when it’s time to change where you are in life?

When you awaken to the sentiment

That remaining confined in disguised devotion is not a characteristic of strength

And 16 years of wifehood ending is not equivalent to shame

To journey forward with the responsibility of realizing new dreams

Memories are buried in the depths of your psyche

Intimidating is the weight of letting go; nevertheless, a necessary chore

So that you may move fluidly with your days; faking it ‘til you make it but carrying on

What do you do when you’re not familiar with where you are in life?

When you’re on your own every night fighting habitual thoughts

Struggling with your present character yet ready to revitalize your spirit

After being hitched for so long, tethered away from independence

Now free to be defined by your own mind

And heal your heart according to your own timeline

Able to cry, insecurely shed tears when required

Fully aware that disconnecting was crucial, your soul was tired

What do you do when you’re ready to fulfill a new purpose for your life?

When you no longer pray for another’s affection and assurance

Capable of residing confidently at home in a renewed soul

Rising into your newfound liberation proudly—you glow

When quiet nights have transitioned from loneliness to solitude

Mindful that you alone govern what affects your mood

Because love and care of self, by self, have replaced the need for outside permission

And desire for self-preservation opened the door to unlimited satisfaction
