Everything
Or why I can't be trusted with oxytocin...

I'm trying to think of all the ways
I'll never be able to repay
The everything you're doing for me…
What could I possibly give
To show you how
You've shown me
A different way to live?
Is this how love
Is supposed to look?
I thought I could only
Ask for so little
(Or nothing
at
all).
I crammed myself
In a box so small,
Got used to it,
Didn't realize I
Was suffocating;
Instead, I'd smile
And thank the walls
For allowing me
To keep existing
(while apologizing
for stopping them
from crushing me).
I've been taught
Not to ask
Lest I was a burden,
A sigh, a 'What is it
THIS time?'
I've been at once
Too much
And not enough.
And now
I want to bow,
Kiss your feet,
(and other things...)
Give you my
Everything
Only because,
You didn't ask
For
a
thing .

Very apt words and beautiful imagery surrounding this poem of thanks and love. The struggles feel less gripping, reflected upon. These lines said a lot to me: "Instead, I'd smile And thank the walls For allowing me To keep existing (while apologizing for stopping them from crushing me)."
This hit me so hard! It was so deep! Loved your poem!
This is so simple in some ways but deals with a lot of deep stuff in such a frank and beautiful way! Another classic from you, Bex!
Great work! Well written!
