Every Time

For Dad

Every time someone steps in our lives,

It is like reaching up to the sky

Pulling down pieces of Heaven’s light

As it surrounds us.

Every time I close my eyes, my mind

Pictures the hand that reached out to mine

Remembers the look of the pride in your eyes

And I miss you

My mouth said, “Goodbye”

While tears filled my eyes

Your hand slipped through mine too soon

And my heart, longs for you.

The Father said, “It’s time.”

And pain entered my life

Your hand slipped through mine too soon

And my heart, longs for you.

Every time I see my child

It is like looking in your eyes

The reflection of love shines through her smile

And I remember you

Every time someone leaves our lives,

It is like reaching down inside

Uprooting pieces,

We won’t ever again, find.

My mouth said, “Goodbye”

While tears filled my eyes

Your hand slipped through mine too soon

And my heart, longs for you.

The Father said, “It’s time.”

And pain entered my life

Your hand slipped through mine too soon

And my heart, longs for you.
