Every new September

The change in the wind

makes me think of him,

sweeping in from the north,

like a storm,

that wants to bring me home.

As quickly as he returns,

is as quickly as he leaves,

and I am left with my own company,

just me, myself, and I,

on the shoreline of the sea

So I will live on the daydream,

and befriend the longing,

and lay down at night,

with the ghost of him.

Until next September

brings back

My north wind.

Every time I hope he might stay

But his favorite porch lights only shine

on a tailgate

And you just can't tame a wile thing.

As quickly as he returns

is as quickly as he leaves,

and I am left with my own company,

Just me, myself, and I,

On the shoreline of the sea.

So I will live on the daydream,

and befriend the longing,

and lay down at night,

with the ghost of him,

Until next September

brings back,

my north wind
