envy, she waits

a poem

envy, she waits

fingers slip between my ribs

and settle on my heart

a squeeze, gentle at first

but the longer I look

the tighter her fingers dig in

a pained inhale

dull at the start, yet it lingers

I try to pry her fingers apart

please, I whisper,

I don’t want to feel this way

But jealousy, she holds on tight

and she isn't letting go
