Empty Pockets

Day 13 of 365

By Ellie HoovsPublished 2 years ago • Updated 2 years ago • 1 min read

Waywardly I went

down curves and gravel roads

It seemed evanescence was used

to line my clothes

Nothing I tried to carry with me

had ever stayed.

One day I stripped myself bare naked -

you can't take it with you to your grave.

Then I started collecting daydreams

and pressed wild flowers to my chest,

My hair liquified in sunset

weaving in strands of copper red.

My skin I freckled with stardust,

and moss became my coat.

Who cares about empty pockets

when the Earth has called you home.
