Empty Chairs
I look for familiar face that are long gone

Empty Chairs
I kept the place for you
long after things had changed.
As though old ways could hold
what had already gone.
The days stayed much the same
yet nothing felt the same.
Small changes gathered up
and settled into place.
No final words were said
no doors were slammed shut.
Only quieter moments
that slowly disappeared.
I searched for hidden signs
inside remembered days.
As though one missing piece
would change the way it ended.
I stayed there for too long
and called it being strong.
Until I understood
that waiting changed nothing.
Some things leave quietly
with no clear reason why.
No lesson left behind
no answer left to find.
So I stepped back at last
and let the silence stand.
Not every ending needs
a meaning to survive.
Now I leave empty space
without asking for more.
Some things are not lost
they simply do not stay.
