Eight Minutes of Light
Learning the Patience and Power of Healing Yourself
Learn to let go; learn to relinquish.
We each come into this world alone, simply to find someone to share our lives with. Yet, the person you thought would shelter you from the storms of life often turns out to bring the heaviest rain. A marriage that should have been intimate and close becomes a solitary existence.
The bitterness of life stems from clinging; the difficulty of life lies in letting go. What you care about most torments you the most. The most heartbreaking truth is that the love you gave everything for can end up being nothing more than your own lonely courage.
As W. Somerset Maugham once said, "The tragedy of love is not death or separation, but indifference." Meeting the right person will heal you; meeting the wrong person will drain you. Life is not meant for compromise, and days are not meant for settling. Do not belittle yourself. Actively strive for what belongs to you, but cut your losses when it doesn't.
However, a person rarely says goodbye until every last expectation has been exhausted. "Expectation" is the root of all suffering. Those who place too much importance on love or marriage will ultimately lose themselves; once their partner leaves, it feels like a cataclysmic event.
Dependence is not a long-term solution, and your value should never be limited by it. Learning to let go is your ultimate salvation.
So, focus on your own growth—be practical, steadfast, and grounded. As long as you are strong inside, whether they are there or not, you remain whole. Even sunlight takes eight minutes to reach the Earth; you, too, need time to heal. Striving to improve yourself simply gives you more choices in the future.
True security comes from inner strength; what others give is only temporary. You must cultivate the ability to live a good life on your own. This ability includes not only material independence, but spiritual independence as well. When you love yourself enough, you will find that whether someone loves you or not loses its gravity. What matters is that you are strong and confident.
For the rest of your life, may you learn to let go, and may you find your own piece of cloud in the vast sky.
