A daydream

She is hardly

a daffodil.

She is on

the A train.

What is there

to write,

if not for

the unknown?

Whether it will be

salmon, chicken

or lamb over rice

for dinner, they’ll see.

The flight number,

the destination,

they will see.

The baggy t-shirt

with stripes,

or the one from

little league 97’

—she’ll pack them

both just to see.

Will they take in

the sun or bask

in the dark?

How long will

he keep on

his mask?

Will they continue

to play this game

where she tells him

I love you

and he tells her

he doesn’t?
