Dysfunctional Organs

Other Side of the Skin

By Rowan Finley Published 7 years ago 1 min read

It is hard to let them in,

My heart flickers.

because it is just not convenient.

My lungs expand.

Appears conditional,

My skin jumps.

could be just my gut feeling.

My brain grinds.

Bearing burdens for one another?

My stomach turns.

Some burden could be good,

My pupils dilate.

some bad, but so what?

My liver squirms.

Can a friend truly love me through and through?

My spinal cord dances.

Was I born for adversity?

Every season seems the same because this constant,

constant state of toil.

Friendship gets dirty all too fast.

Fellowship gets ugly all too soon.

My throat tightens.

I decided to keep my body mask on for today,

maybe we can be friends tomorrow.

My organs thank me.
