with what dampened spirit

darkened by the lack of constructed windows

barred by self imposed restriction

are these bars fashioned?

when the key lies within reach

and sight

glistening on it's dark hook

faces turned away lost in howl

consumed in resentment

imprisonment is a choice if not the preference

here are the steps winding up the rounded walls

a bannister carved with birdwing

the edge of a tapestry visible on the tower wall ascending

motes of dust floating in the window beam of sunlight

the freshened wind moving easily

the climb not far to the tower room

with it's candles, it's desk and books

the view of green fields and forests

the river beckons

the ocean blends into the horizon sparkling

what rise is needed

what door opening

what past transgressions annulled

for freedom's repose?
