dream of me once in a while

may it be bittersweet

It often feels like yesterday,

Yet today; it has felt like an eternity, since you were by my side.

I tried to speak your name again recently…

It still makes my throat get tight.

Beaten back down by tonsils and tongue, until I feel your name making knots where butterflies still inconveniently reside.

I tried to rest and slumber to get you off my mind,

But you showed up in my dream, you were smiling as your fingers interlocked with mine.

A tragedy struck again the moment I woke,

The brutality of my unconscious mind teasing a future I once dreamed of; a future now revoked.
