Dragonfly on the Laundry Line
Sounds of Nature
D
Dragonfly, dragon fly lounging on the laundry line
Enjoying its time in the noon day sun
Completely unmoved by humanity’s hum and din
Content just to bathe and bask in the tepid temperate clime
With its hybrid eyes and translucent wings
He sits perched perfectly balanced on the laundry line
Like a decoration on the mantelpiece
A curious sight for passersby
Dear Dragonfly, dragonfly
I envy your flight and freedom
Like the proverbial fly on the wall
Or the lizard in the King’s palace
A tiny spectator and reservoir of secret knowledge
Seeing all and hearing all
What I would give to be your audience
And share in the awe of what you have seen and heard
Dragonfly, dragonfly
Perched high on the laundry line
Annoyed by humans and their noisy disturbance
At being ejected from his prize perch
And replaced by miles of wet laundry that never stops
Why on earth do humans wear so many clothes?
