Don’t Point the Fingers of Time at Me

The past is gone I do not want to know

Don’t Point the Fingers of Time at Me

Don’t point the fingers of time at me,
I really don’t want to know,
There’s nothing you could tell me now
Of the things from long ago.

I know each thing I’ve done wrong,
I know each thing I’ve done bad,
I know each man that I’ve been with,
Who made me happy, who made me sad.

But that time’s gone, forgotten,
It’s been buried in the past,
So why bring back those memories
When I’d found some peace at last?

Don’t point the fingers of time at me,
Point them at your blooming self,
For I’m the one that time forgot,
But still sat upon the shelf.

I’ve walked through years of heartache,
I’ve shed my share of tears,
But I won’t let yesterday
Come stealing all my years.

I’ve loved, I’ve lost, I’ve stumbled,
I’ve made mistakes, it’s true,
But if you think I need reminding,
I’ve got news for you.

I never claimed perfection,
Nor said my hands were clean,
But you don’t know the half of it,
Or the places I have been.

So don’t come back with memories,
And make me feel so sad,
Don’t make me sit remembering
The things I once had.

The past is gone, the time ran out
A long, long time ago,
And everything that happened then
Is something I already know.

So don’t point the fingers of time at me,
I’ve lived through joy and pain,
And I won’t let your pointing fingers
Drag me through it all again.

I’ve carried every memory,
Through sunshine and through rain,
And some have left their footprints
Deep within my brain.

So don’t point the fingers of time at me,
The past has had its show,
For in my heart, my body and my brain,
I already know.
