Do not follow
An entry for Gabriel Huizenga's "Should I Depart Early" Unofficial Challenge
Should I depart early, do not follow.
Stay where you are and enjoy what you are
With whoever you're with, even if that's not me.
But do not think I am not there.
Trigger points surround you like emotional landmines
Ready to spill love as they're depressed.
Look up.
There I am in the plumpness of white clouds
On a searing blue sky day.
Hear that?
Little birds are my song to you
With the steady
Whomp-whomp of the pigeon's wing overhead.
Feel the feather as it drifts down from above,
And tickles you,
Like a caress.
Know that I reach for you still.
Taste the sweetness of the home-made
And the love of past provision in rich meals,
Prepared to please.
Crumbs from a cake; the hearty warmth of a roast dinner.
The soft scent of honeysuckle and roses drifts,
Their drowsy blooms bobbing as breeze brushes them,
Sending smells divine as reminders of past walks
And murmured conversations
And the laughs of shared joy.
There is no reason for you to miss me.
Just sense me.
I am there.
