There weren't always dragons in the Valley.
That's how we are meant to lead.
Not by mounted steed,
Or any other exciting deed.
The Masters commanded that
We MUST begin the tale
With the words they provided.
There weren't always dragons in the Valley.
From there the tale can spin
In any direction our mind can go
And unfold with any words our fingers can type.
But the beginning must be as we were commanded.
There weren't always dragons in the Valley.
If those words are used not...
You shall not have fulfilled that which you were asked
And verily the door will close upon your chances
You will have lost even before your chance to be assessed to win.
There weren't always dragons in the Valley.
And so, each tale told will say these words
But any words thereafter will be those of the story crafter.
What lovely web of words shall you be weaving?
After the words we have been given?
There weren't always dragons in the Valley.
Let the stories unfold....

I found this piece abandoned in my drafts. Though the more appropriate window of timing for this piece has passed, I share it now anyway. This bit of whimsy was written during the Fantasy Prologue Challenge which has now concluded and winners have been announced. Sadly although I wrote this piece about the Challenge, I failed to complete an entry to submit to the Challenge.
