Delicious Coke and Caps
An ode to food in Appalachian
Sweet, savory food that can be found at any theater
Good drink and snack to always have near.
It is nice to have a nice bottle of Coke
pop the top, and enjoy yourself some delicious dope!
Then with some corn and heat from fire and ash,
you can cook yourself a nice round of caps!
You hear each of the kernels pop
and continue their serenade until they finally stop
and you have some nice white fluffy things to enjoy
a nice nibble for every kind of girl and boy.
Sometimes it is nice to relax
and enjoy yourself with some coke and caps!
Note:
- 'Coke' and 'dope' are terms for soda in Appalachian English and 'caps' is a term for popcorn!

Confessions of an Empath
The birds are chirping, and the sun is shining in a cloudless July sky. The vibrancy promises a beautiful day, but the cooing of the Mourning Dove perched on the powerlines seems to be more fitting than the lively songs of the robin flitting through the trees. The melancholic calls of the dove cloak the world in a sadness that hangs like tattered drapes.
