Dec. 12 - Letter to Santa
Poetry Advent Calendar
I have fond memories of helping my niece and nephew write letters to Santa. The intensity and patience as they turned thoughts into words, the joy of seeing them think about connecting with someone in a world that so rarely writes letters anymore.
*** December 12th ***
December brings out the author
Who aims to attention capture
By sending Santa a letter
***
Pull out paper, sit by the light
Then think carefully, be polite
Take time to ponder what to write
Attention key in this gesture
***
Letters rounded so patiently
Each little word formed fervently
Dear Santa, starts innocently
A list of deeds, then seek favour
***
The long list narrowed, now certain
The desire of children given
At last, room for one last question
In hopes of an elfin answer
