Dear Reader
A Grateful Sonnet
Given how coveted attention is
In this mad, distracted, impatient world
In which a like means much more than a kiss
When something carefully written is hurled
Into the grey, seething, virtual void
And you deign to touch it with your bright eyes
Only a rank ingrate would be annoyed;
Infinite diversions, your move defies
A vast and complex machine conspires
To freeze your eyeballs and keep them transfixed
Upon one of a trillion pixel fires
But with my small words, your mind is now mixed
Humbly, we ought to thank those who will read;
Time and attention, our words sorely need

Congrats on a fine sonnet and Top Story!
I love your comment in the About the Creator blurb. Time is limited and our imagination is not! Beautifully said. Congratulations on TS! Loved your sonnet.

Impressive!!!
Congrats on Top Story!🥳
Back to say congratulations on your Top Story! 🎉💖🎊🎉💖🎊
You're welcome!
Marvelous work! Keep it going—congrats!
This is wonderful. It's really a great feeling when people what to see the words that fall out of our heads. Well done and congrats on the TS.
You really capture the deep feeling of both gratitude and being seen as a writer. I've also thought the writer/reader connection is a profound one especially now with this "grey, seething, virtual void". You really nailed the feeling of throwing a poem out into some abyss. And I loved the eye pictures! Great job and congrats on the Top Story!!
They sure do. And the thing is there is so much to read. I try not to think about what I've not read as it upsets me. So much I won't ever read...
I love this! It perfectly expresses the gratitude a writer can't help but feel whenever someone clicks on their piece. Especially, as you mentioned, with so much on the internet fighting to grab everyone's attention these days in every which way. Wonderful piece! Thank you so much for writing and sharing this!
Excellent work
Beautiful!
And I'm thankful to you and other writers for giving me stuff to read!
