Dear Quiet Suburbia

A Spoken Word

Dear quiet suburbia.

Dear silent suburbia.

This is to capture the silent rains that have come crashing down since the age of 3

and now I sit before you at the age of 18.

Because half a decade from now,

you will be a fleeting memory.

Yes, you.

The rains that fell outside of my window, carrying deep into the night.

We wish to grow up faster, just to turn around and beg for stunted growth—for a pause of time. We hope for our childhoods back at the feet of VHS filtered overlays and vintage thrift stores.

A taste of nostalgia. A marinade of simplicity.

Because we crave familiarity—

Truth is one day I will trade the normalcy of suburban rains

for the boisterous cities across the globe.

I wonder if one day you too will become an archive of nostalgia.
