Dear Mom,

Through the years you’ve protected me and been protected by me.

You’ve inspired me and deceived me.

You’ve made me incredibly happy, and you’ve also shown me the dark side of the world.

I’ve wanted to look up to you, yet never be like you.

I will never forgive you for not leaving, but our shared horrors keep us together.

I love you as a co-dependent child and hate you as a woman.

There’s no easy way to feel with you.

I’m either not enough or the perfect child.

I’m either too serious or a child.

You’re either the best mom, or my worst enemy.

You’re either your worst enemy, or a child.

I know you never got to grow up normally.

And I would never hate you for that.

I hate you for never allowing me to be a child.

Sincerely, Your Daughter
