Dear Friend
A poem about losing someone dear to you
My dear friend,
I will never forget you.
You're now in the heavens,
in the clouds above.
Watching us all.
You left us feeling torn.
Three cancers grabbed you,
leaving you spent and in pain.
I never said goodbye,
so, I write this hoping
you'll see
that your memory
will truly stay
with me.
I will never forget
your wittiness.
Your comments
about life in general,
politics, and cats.
Your amazing spirited self
lived for greater things
but cancer crippled you
and whittled you away.
Nothing would keep you
at bay.
I wished there'd been
more time,
but alas,
time turned sour
and the days trotted on
as my tears fell
and my sadness dwelled,
enraging me
and forsaking me
those unspoken words.
The memory
of your messages
spurred me on,
helped me to write.
But now
I'll write about you,
in fiction and in poetry.
In it, your memory
will go on.
So,
until then,
I will explore life
and enjoy
each and every day
remembering you
until we meet again.
Goodbye,
my dear friend.
Sleep tight.
