a poem, and a letter

Dear Dad,

I will always be your little girl.

I'm sure it's hard to believe that I'm the same girl that scraped her knees and climbed trees. I bet you forget I'm the same girl that held your hand, the same girl that loved the beach but didn't like the sand.

I'm all grown up now, but she's still there.

The girl that asked for piggyback rides and couldn't walk past any park without going on the slides. That girl who ran to you first and cried in your arms, and the girl that got you to cover her ears at the sound of alarms.

I'm a bit taller now, and a bit wiser too.

But I'll always need you.

Because I'm still the girl that wanted Scooby-Doo band-aids and didn't really know all the words to 'Ace Of Spades' (but lets face it, neither do you, not even now.)

I'm still the girl that calls you first in the time of emergency - still the girl that begged you to watch Supernatural like it was something of urgency.

And I know I'm older now, and you're no spring chicken either.

And if I had to choose between my present or my future I'd choose neither, because I'd go back to the past in a heartbeat. Just to be the girl that was yours who would eventually turn into the woman you'll meet.

Sincerely, your little girl.
