Dead Flowers Stay Longer
Till they start to smell of rot

Dead Flowers Stay Longer
You left black roses near the sink
Water turned the petals thin
Their scent drifted through empty rooms
Like sorrow stitched beneath my ribs
Rain crawled slow across the glass
Streetlights drowned in silver fog
The floorboards cried beneath my feet
As memories dragged chains behind
I wore your coat for warmth at dawn
Its sleeves still held your fading smoke
My heartbeat felt uneven then
Like shattered glass inside my lungs
Dead flowers stayed beside the bed
Long after every candle died
Their roots wrapped deep around my sleep
Growing through the darker side
The wallpaper began to peel
Thin curls hanging near the stairs
Every room became a grave
Filled with dust and phantom breath
I found your ring beneath the sink
Cold metal hidden near the drain
For one long moment I believed
You stood behind me once again
Outside the garden turned to rot
Black vines twisted through the fence
Dead birds gathered near the gate
Their feathers soaked from endless rain
Still those flowers never fell
Even when the seasons changed
They watched me through another year
Silent witnesses to decay
