Dare

A poem on a breakthrough

He said, "be careful. Others may take advantage of your vulnerability"

And suddenly she felt herself shrink

That little girl inside of her came to the light

She spoke softly to the girl

It's okay for you to feel the way you feel

Your fear is completely real

And it's safe for you to express yourself

Baby girl, you were born with a heart and a voice

Dare to be loud

Dare to trust yourself

Dare to step on toes

Dare to be wild

I know it feels more safe to stay here

To blend in

To shy away

To live within certainty

I promise

When you dare to live for yourself

You will feel the strength in your vulnerability

You will find no need to wear this protective shell

You will understand that the pain of silence

The pain of not taking the leap

The pain of never knowing what is possible

Hurts far more than the pain of failure and rejection

I'm here with you

I'm listening

No more running

I'll hold your hand every step of the way

Dare to feel

Dare to be weird

Dare to stand out

Dare to be you
