Dance With Me for One Last Time

A prom dance that broke two hearts

Dance With Me for One Last Time

The gym lights dimmed with a silver glow,

Your hand in mine moved soft and slow,

A song we loved filled every space,

Still tears were hiding on your face.

The roses faded in your hair,

A quiet sadness lingered there,

You smiled as if to mask the pain,

Though hearts like ours were breaking plain.

We swayed beneath the paper stars,

Trying to heal invisible scars,

Your fingertips began to shake,

Each second more than I could take.

You whispered low, “We changed somehow,”

The music carried every vow,

I felt the world fall out of place,

While silence settled in your gaze.

The crowd kept dancing all around,

Lost inside the pulsing sound,

Yet all I heard was goodbye near,

Wrapped inside each falling tear.

You pulled me close one final song,

As if we still believed we’d last long,

Your head against my chest so tight,

Holding onto fading light.

Then slowly came the final beat,

Our trembling hearts could not repeat,

You let my hand slip from your own,

Leaving me standing there alone.

Now every prom song that I hear,

Still brings your memory crystal clear,

One final dance still haunts my mind,

“Dance with me for one last time.”
