Dance Deliverance
And Unapologetic Funkiness
My
groove
is non-negotiable.
Every loci of my life
tied to established rhythms
a righteousness inhaled on a daily
where harmonies take their time
don’t think about breakfast ‘til noon
as drumbeats pulse chi-intensity to vital organs
central nervous system already drunk-drowned on soca
soul
sega
samba
sweetness (songs) I groove beyond classical chords (and sheet music)
to both nourish and intrigue
spiced embers beneath my feet
internal refrain on repeat
lifts me rifts me gifts me grace
a welcome insignia as spirit washes over
whilst preparations are underway.
Tempo assists in tough times.
Dance always better than doubt.
Cross-steps better than curses
crying…caving in…
quitting.
"Close eyes," I tell myself
"and listen for symphony,"
that sound a lifesaver
a limb-loosener
waist-winder, raison d’être refiner
my ability to function
converse
and remain a somewhat accessible human component
via effervescent scores.
This groove is enough.
So unapologetically enough.
And my baseline:
Breath before blood.
Altered micromanagement for homeostasis.
For calm me
a 'within earshot/striking range/shoulder support' me
Best behavior you gon’ get for now.
Booty bass unbelievable and badass.
Lyrics and lusciousness to carry through to other sides.
Eyes glazed saturated softness post-salsa intervention
and an easy "YES"
to
just
one
more groove.

We'z Walking on a Path Ruled By Numbers
This road has felt endless, yet limited; every step tracked. Inching away along this path, I feel trapped. Confined. Left to this narrow passage that may one day amount to something greater. Time is not a concept. Only distance. From start to finish, I laugh and cry and attempt to convince myself that this is worth it. I cannot stray. I must keep going. Every step etched, is a step taken, is measured as more than before. I cannot even recall how I got here. Maybe I don’t even really exist. Just another tick marking off a perceived presence. Of what though? I am just another line drawn. Nothing more, nothing less.

This is one of the most synesthethic poems I’ve read in a long time. I could 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 the groove, the movement, the bend and flow. This poem was a delight to read. The beginning just had me hooked with its breaks and movement and ahhh. The energy woven into it, the outstanding word play and choices. “Spiced embers, booty bass unbelievable, lifts me rifts me gifts me grace” Goshhh this poem was like music for the infinite soul, for life. (I’m trying hard to explain in WORDS this electric feeling lol) Just outstanding.
