D for Distraction

“Since mankind's dawn, a handful of oppressors have accepted the responsibility over our lives that we should have accepted for ourselves. By doing so, they took our power. By doing nothing, we gave it away. We've seen where their way leads, through camps and wars, towards the slaughterhouse.” ― Alan Moore, V for Vendetta

Divide by class, race, and gender,

Incite violence, don't reveal the agenda,

Segregate, separate, are you red or are you blue?

Tabloids decide your political view,

Reliance, corruption, convenience, dependence,

A sprinkle of propaganda, "You're so good!" (and defenceless),

Compliant or crazy, there is no in-between,

To know what to think, just switch on the screen,

In Stanford Prison, in Robber's Cave,

Our lessons never learnt, it's ourselves we enslave,

Now, then, in 1984, why don't we ever ask who started the war?

(Charlie Chaplin - "The Great Dictator Speech")

Yes! You see it. They incite the masses to turn people against one another, and it’s one big distraction so we don’t come together and fight oppression. “Divide and conquer.”

Oh, I like this one. Love how you took the prompt and ran in this direction with it. Can't fault your reasoning and love all the references. In terms of poetry, it flows so welll.

I love the direction you took this poem in. The references, storytelling, and use of rhyme were on point but your last line hits the hardest. Snaps to you!
