Cry Me a River
Cry me a river, they say,
but I am already drowning.
The current pulls me deeper,
than any words can reach.
This river has no ending,
its banks are far away.
Each teardrop feeds its body,
and still it grows each night.
I cry for what was taken,
for dreams that never came.
The water keeps them hidden,
beneath its restless waves.
Cry me a river, they say,
as though it were a jest.
Yet they do not feel the weight,
of waters in my chest.
I drift on sorrow’s surface,
with no shore to claim me.
The sky above turns heavy,
and clouds refuse to part.
The river knows no kindness,
its voice is rough and loud.
It swallows all my secrets,
and echoes them in storms.
Cry me a river, they say,
but it is more than that.
It is the world I live in,
and it will not let me go.
So let me drift forever,
on tears I cannot stop.
Cry me a river, they say,
yet the river cries for me.
