Crossing lines

Ultimatums vs boundaries

In the beginning,

When you're happy and hopeful.

You ask for things.

You make promises

You're the best version of yourself.

But as life creeps in,

And reality rears its head.

Did you set reasonable boundaries?

Or propose impossible ultimatums?

When you swore to stick through it no matter what.

Did those boundaries, those ultimatums get in the way?

How much is too much?

When is enough, enough?

When you have promised forever,

Through everything life throws at you,

Why do you cling to those demands made before you knew?

Before you knew he was the one.

Before you knew she held your heart.

Before the walls came down.

When you figure out the difference and make the change,

I hope it's not late for you...
