Creatures of the Night

some animals just feel safer coming out at night

Ravens.

Black feathers and morose cries.

Forced into being omens of death.

Safer to come out at night.

Black cats.

Glowing eyes of mystery.

Bad luck by chance not by choice.

They're just doing their best.

Wolves.

Bloodthirsty hunters.

Tyrannical leaders.

Trying to keep their pack alive

Crying to the moon for help.

Spiders.

Eight legs creeping and skittering.

Weaving traps of mild inconvenience.

They hunt the things that we don't want.

Owls.

Wise and patient.

Big eyes and wide wings.

At night they are much more.

A fearsome predator.

Mice.

One is a nuisance.

A few is unsettling.

A pack is a threat.

But they can be cute too.

Badgers are cool.

Small but fierce.

Never underestimate them.

Those of us who are nocturnal

Come alive at night.

Often becoming the opposite

of what we are in sunlight.

This is the safest way

for us to be ourselves.

You have no reason to be afraid.

We are surviving like anyone else.
