It’s a Trap!

I used to cosplay

As witches and elves

And renaissance wenches

And Pictish warriors

It was so much fun

To step out of my reality

And become someone else

To forget my troubles

To forget myself

Even for an hour

That I decided to take on

The most challenging cosplay

Of all:

An adult

But when my hour was up

I could not take the costume off

It seemed grafted to my skin

And now all people could see me as

Was this harrowing thing

With a job and loans and responsibilities

Why?

Why?

Why can’t I take this costume off?

Why can’t I be who I was before?

Someone please help me!

I don’t want to play adult anymore
