Cooking Up Romance
Flour dust floated through warm kitchen light
Music played softly that slow summer night
You laughed while stirring the sauce on the stove
Something inside me quietly glowed
Steam curled upwards in delicate sways
Carrying garlic and sweet herb haze
Your sleeves rolled high with a grin on your face
Turning the kitchen to magical place
Cooking up romance with clumsy old grace
Wine on your fingers and heat in the space
Nothing extravagant polished or grand
Still love kept blooming there under your hands
You burned the bread and we laughed till we cried
Pasta boiled over all onto the side
Tiny disasters somehow felt just right
Wrapped in the comfort of shared candlelight
Outside the rain tapped soft on the pane
Inside our laughter dissolved every strain
The world beyond us faded from view
For one gentle evening it held only you
People chase passion through chaos and fire
Mistaking destruction for deep desire
Yet sometimes love lives in simple small scenes
Quiet as soup bubbling gentle with steam
Now every time onions soften in pan
Memory pulls me right back there again
Cooking up romance in that tiny room
Where ordinary life suddenly bloomed
