Conversation in a Coffee Cup

IT'S THAT MOMENT WHEN A CONNECTION IS MADE... SO INTERESTING TO WATCH TWO PEOPLE SITTING DOWN CONVERSING AND WONDERING WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT... THIS IS MY TAKE ON THAT... ENJOY!

CONVERSATION IN A COFFEE CUP

It's just a cup of coffee,

Isn't it?

What secrets does that amazing cup hold?

I see the two people through an immaculately clear window,

So unlike their thoughts,

The opacity mind numbing!

Perhaps, do you think, the reason they search the depths of their cups?

What answer do they seek?

They swirl the grounds hiding at the bottom of the cups,

Coffee now cold, unsound.

They lift their eyes, catch each others unaware,

A smile so quick,

You almost miss the quirk of lip,

As a quick shift of gaze frees them from revealing secrets

Hidden in the nethers of their soul.

Once more they sink eyes into the abyss of cups,

Slight banter parrying uninvited questions..not yet!

She sweet, he shy; too scared to look up,

To watch the other rise and run! But...

It's just a cup of coffee,

Isn't it?

Such a small, small cup...

Yet, an introduction to new friends, new lovers,

An invitation to world leaders to detente!

What a wonderful thing a cup of coffee is,

Early to wake, late to arise.

I watch the two reach for their cups, in tandem

Their fingers touch...

An introduction by the cup.

Shy smiles, a little laugh as their fingers twine,

They stand.

To the bistro they bid goodnight.

The only evidence that they've been,

Two perfect lips stain red the empty coffee cup,

It's partner stands away, brim chest out,

As if a job well done, he's proud!

From such small things,

Come great, wonderful beginnings!

So I ask you now,

Is it truly just a cup of coffee?

Is it?
