Connection

rhyming

By ChickadeePublished about a year ago • 1 min read

With your sweet words and reassurances,

please slow down this racing mind of mine.

Imagine our heartbeats matching in rhythm

to each other’s underlying bassline.

Trust hangs in the stretch of distance between us,

while we picture our hands intertwined.

After years of searching and hoping,

our wishes for a soulmate were answered in kind.

If allowed, fear can settle inside our bones

and make us both want to run away.

As long as a foundation is built and set,

I know we’ll always reach out to each other in all the disarray.

The hope I hold for this connection is overflowing,

though doubts have started to appear.

Negativity comes swiftly and start to fill in the cracks,

but we clasp hands and hold onto what we hold most dear.

Nothing exchanged between us is superfluous,

especially the wistful, textured sighs that escape our lips.

This budding connection is swoon-worthy,

and arrived blindingly similar to a solar eclipse.
