Sometimes it's easier
To see what we want to see in people
Instead of what is really there
To see the best in all people
To overlook hatred-filled hearts
Harm-filled intentions
And actions meant to destroy
Sometimes it's easier
To see what we want to see in people
Instead of what's really there
To see the worst in all people
To overlook love-filled hearts
Kindness-filled intentions
And actions meant to nurture
But to truly see others for who they are
We have to recognize balance
And understand that people are complex
Emotions are complex
Hearts are complex
Intentions are complex
And even actions are complex
And at the root of it all, our perceptions are complex
In this complexity lies the truth
That we must always be willing to see.
