The way home

Soft and filtered, the bright light shines through the window as the setting sun puts forth extra efforts to end the day with brilliance.

My hands slide over the textured acrylic yarn as the blanket continues to manifest as a result of their machinations.

The dogs bark predictably as the train dings to a stop. I sigh and gather my things, ready for the next phase of the journey.

Acrid diesel fumes surround me; it's the only air I can get as I cross the street, but somehow completely dissipates once I've reached the sidewalk on the other side. There are so many buses at this transit station, yet none to take me near where I need to be.

I toss my bags into the back. The train ride is just the right length to transition between work and home. With my head back and my eyes closed, I reach for the container that I know is there, and open it without needing to look. I savor the smooth caramel and sweet chocolate of the Twix bar.

It is time to drive the short distance home and it is so freeing to feel like I am in control of my time again.
