Commitment

to fifty years…

My parents—50 years ago!

Fifty years of love,

incipient flames grow strong,

passion builds the bond.

Flames burn, and in time…

Earthly love feels Heavenly.

Two hearts melt to join.

Overtime—dwindling flames begin to die,

Running out of oxygen…

we reach for the bellows.

First you, then I…

Pumping oxygen into dim embers,

arms tired and struggling to keep

love alive, we push one more time.

There’s a spark,

furiously fanning they ignite,

and love burns bright again.

Commitment—

tending the fire,

the same fire,

for fifty years…

Now that’s rare.
