comfort isn’t like a real thing
Is it?
Is it in the way your voice winds down, almost singing, almost embracing me
Like a warmth I can’t carry or
Even dream of?
Comfort is in that warm tea left on the counter.
Comfort is talking to someone who knows what you’ll say before you say it.
Comfort isn’t in your gains after pain, it is in your very words and actions.
You carry it like a sling, you carry it in your stance.
You carry it in a quiet room where no one sees
While you do your own dance.
Comfort is like a stream, a stream that is like a person, trickling into your pores
Melting away your sorrows.
