Come Walk With Me

Wanderlust of the Heart

"Come, stroll with me, my dearest one,

In solitude, beneath the sun.

No other soul, just thee and me,

To bless my spirit, wild and free.

We once adored the winter's night,

Wandering through the pure, white light.

Can we not resurrect those joys,

Recapture love that time destroys?

The clouds, in haste, with shadows play,

Upon our mountain, drear and gray.

Much like in days of long ago,

They gather, brooding, dark and slow.

On the horizon, they amass,

In looming heaps, a shadowed mass.

While moonbeams dance in fleeting glee,

So swift, we scarce can say they be.

Come, walk with me, side by side,

Our company diminished, a lonely stride.

Death, a thief, stole friends away,

As sunshine takes the morning dew.

He claimed them one by one, you see,

Leaving just us, just you and me.

So closer, let our feelings twine,

For in your presence, love's divine.

'Nay, do not call me,' you declare,

Yet love's embrace is in the air.

Is human love not steadfast, true?

Can friendship bloom for years untold,

Then wither, fade, and lie in cold?

No, tears may wet the soil anew,

Yet life, once gone, will not renew.

More certain than the looming dread,

The cold and silent realm of the dead,

Time weaves a parting for mortal men."
