Colors Through the Storm: a Ghazal for LGBTQ Pride

Angered veins purpling like dark clouds grew the storm

Blue in the face with their hate, they brew the storm

Their torrents of shame shroud the world in greys

Pouring down, bleaching out those who knew the storm

Where their hot white lightning words have struck and burned

From ash, a scarlet gold phoenix flew the storm

They tried to drench us in their unforgiveness

But our undampened spirits undo the storm

This kind of pride comes from love pushing through shame

Rainbows arise from light pushing through the storm

As creators, as lovers we use the rain

to paint in watercolors anew the storm

Amber, wild rose, canary, tangerine

Our colors radiate and imbue the storm

Sharing burdens we are every shade of warm

Hand in hand we dance together through the storm.
