Color Yourself

...like your life depends on it. Because it does.

On the outside, rosy cheeks and lenses

Peachy orange, they all blend in

They're all the same, meshed together with no face and no name

I was bright turquoise and vibrant green

Clashing and glowing, a different breed

I learned to color myself like a rainbow

No teacher, no guide, an apprentice on my own

You can learn too if you want mystery

To pick up the brush and make the strokes

At first you'll smudge and dang near miss

But when you practice and put in the time

You stay in your lines just fine

And after you paint yourself solid colors, then you learn to accentuate

Blend and mix with waves and blurs, you splatter the color all over your face

Perfectly imperfect, not a drop out of place

When you see the reflection you'll be startled at first

"Who's that person? Is that even me? They're so happy and unabashedly free!"

So wear your paint and show all of your colors

Make them think, "She's one weird crazy Autistic ADHD traumatized mother trucker"

When they get mad and throw shade your way

Listen to what I say

They're mad they can never glow like Gold

Because even on their best days

There's not one shade of peachy orange

That stands out next to a Rainbow
