Cold
Winter pressed against the door
I could feel it through the floor
Frozen winds cut through the street
Stealing feeling from my feet
Breath turned pale beneath the sky
Lonely hours dragged slowly by
Empty benches lined the park
Covered white from dawn till dark
My hands shook inside my sleeves
Bare trees cried through dying leaves
Every face looked far away
Like the world had turned to gray
Cold words echoed through my head
Long after the voices fled
Memories stayed sharp and clear
Pulling pain from every year
The river moved stiff and slow
Underneath the falling snow
Moonlight rested on the ground
Without making any sound
I searched hard for signs of care
Only frost remained out there
Doors stayed locked against the night
Keeping warmth far from sight
Even love felt cold to touch
After losing far too much
Silence settled in my chest
Giving aching thoughts no rest
Still I walk through winter rain
Carrying strength beside my pain
Though the cold cuts deep inside
I refuse to run and hide
