Cold Front
Better to Have My Heart Cold Than Broken
You seem to be nervous to ask me out boy
and you have every reason to be,
I come with a mile long
warning label that is invisible for you to see.
I will never be able to open up about my past,
and will dodge all the questions you ask of me
for as long as I am able to last.
I will only be able to give you
a fraction of what you deserve,
the road that you're thinking about traveling on
is rocky and full of curves.
Even if I dared to try I couldn't give you my all,
for my heart that you are asking for is
shielded with hardened material
for when the time comes when no one was there
to catch me if I fall.
I am cast within a chilling storm,
frozen from the cold front
without any shelter in sight
that offers to keep me warm.
I need to be honest with you
because I was never the type of girl
to lead someone on,
for it was I that has been on the other side of it
and preyed upon.
You can't expect me to suddenly develop feelings
for a guy that I don't even know,
as you attempt to drag me down further
from where I am now at—
weakened with my self esteem low.
You are currently portraying a little boy
that is on the playground
whom pulls the girl's hair for attention,
but the act quickly gets to be boring
I need to mention.
I grew out of that at the age of five,
and now I am a grown woman that craves something
more—to feel alive.
I would actually be surprised if you know
a single thing about me,
yet you claim to like the person you thought I be.
At this moment in my life I need to work on myself
and I feel that I can't do that with you,
so please move on to the next act
without waiting for a stage cue.
You work on your life and I'll work on mine,
the both of us will go on our separate ways
and we will each turn out fine.
I am not the trophy that you think of me as
or something you could win,
but even if I don't like you like that
tonight I will pray that you are successful in life...
to my God that you refuse to believe in.
About the Creator
Stephanie Lifton
Hi! You will soon find different varieties here. I am a writer and a poet, though I am still passing some stepping stones with this. I get wrapped up in the poem sometimes and it may turn out long in the end, so I apologize in advance. :3
