A Poem

We were shaken

When five lives were taken

But one is not mistaken

When they cheer

For the one that took them from here

They say they support the military

But when an unarmed veteran

Takes care of their man

Nothing but silence

Because they love the violence of hate

They wish they could use the state

To destroy the world

Bleeding billions

They don’t realize

They are the villains

They think they are Daniel in the den

But they are not

They are the plebeian legion

Leading the people to their cross

They say they care

Yet, are the lions tearing us apart in the colosseum

They preach love

While enacting their hate

There is no fate

Just random acts of pain

That stain our mind

But now it’s time to grieve

Later we can unwind

So powerfully and beautifully done. So hard to understand the mindset of people who do this, thank you for expressing the emotion. Well done

  • Poignantly worded. It really is heartbreaking that this sort of violence and hatred continues to take place in the United States. With your poem you really captured the feelings and emotions of a lot of people right now.

This one hit me deep. I have admittedly not been the same since Pulse, which was a place that felt like home to me in a very dark time in my life. It feels like things have just been escalating year after year since then. I appreciate the rawness and unapologetic truth. My heart goes out to everyone affected. I wish no one had to know that pain.

Beautifully expressed. I could feel all the sadness, confusion and pain. I don't understand why people love to hate.

Your ability to express the dark and painful aspects of modern society in rhyme is fantastic. Looking forward to reading more.

I will never understand what happens in the minds of those that will allow themselves to destroy lives in the way they do. It's beyond hate. It's evil. Thank you for your words to the ones who are gone but never forgotten.

Bless you for offering comfort to others through your own grief

  • There are so many instances where people offer "thoughts and prayers" but really offer nothing at all, I am here to support you in what little way I can. Very powerful words.
