definition

a reminder: the sky.

a reminder: the clouds.

a reminder: the wind.

there is so much movement, hypnotizing movement, in the sky. and yet, an infinite stillness that takes your breath away sometimes. to revel in her glory—the sky, the earth, the wind, the clouds. you ache for this feeling. to be like a cloud. to be ever-changing and feel weird sometimes and stretch yourself thin or puff yourself up or disappear completelyand still always be present. you ache for this feeling.

you walk through city blocks.

they span what feels like acres long.

from your vantage point, only greyscape is visible.

clear windows let you peek into cool grey rooms with tall white people and black glasses and light grey floors with dark grey walls.

from your vantage point, all you see is buildings.

tall, tall, tall, tall buildings that stretch up and up and up and up.

you have never tried to look higher than the 405th floor of a building.

not since you were three have you seen it.

the sky.

the blue-orange-pink-purple-grey-black-red-silver sky.

your sound induced headaches are throbbing from the yelling and the honking and the crying and the everything. cars screech and howl. babies sob. buildings crash and creak and ding!ding!ding!ding!. construction workers holler and big machines crack cement like water-starved land. your apartment building houses 500 people in 200 rooms that are 100 square feet or smaller. you have three roommates and five suitcases-worth of clothing. stuff and stuff is piling up. people on people on buildings on cars on people. you need to take a break

run

grab a bag with a windbreaker maybe and a cap run and walk and run run run run until the buildings are collapsing into dust behind you they are small like the ants you crush with your cousins in your converse all stars and breathe.

you can breathe.

look up ————— sky. the clouds are puffy and condensed at first glance. moments later they drift into flat disks. then suddenly they disappear. now, they resemble the white sand in a zen garden, raked into perfection.

one breath in out

in

out

you follow the waves of wind that sweep across the sky. you feel

tranquil peaceful full.
